Arthur Beale X National Maritime Museum Greenwich 

Arthur Beale is the oldest ship chandler in the world and over the past 500 years has kitted out the greatest sailors and explorers. The National Maritime Museum has over 2.5 million items from sailors and explorers over the centuries including several original items from Arthur Beale. Together, we have embarked on a unique collaboration that reflects the tradition, style and functionality of the clothing worn by these intrepid individuals. 

Sturdy yet fashionable, the beanie is designed to withstand the elements while adding a refined touch to your cold-weather wardrobe. Whether you're exploring the great outdoors or navigating city streets, this well- made accessory is a perfect blend of heritage and contemporary flair.

Care Instructions:

a) Wash in tepid (30°C) water – hot water will lead to shrinkage. Use a liquid soap such as Arthur Beale’s Woolly Wash or a 2 in 1 hair shampoo with conditioner. Immerse and gently swish and agitate by hand. Leave to soak for 5 - 10 minutes then squeeze out the water. Refill with fresh water and repeat until the water is clear when squeezing out.


b) Never wring or stretch wool when wet – this will cause the item to become misshapen due to the elasticity of natural wool. Lay on a clean towel and roll them tightly together to remove the excess moisture without stretching it.

c) Dry flat – do not use the tumble dryer or the item will shrink radically. You can buy special mesh trays to help the air flow. Reshape whilst damp.
